About The Hotel

Prominently located on the Main Street of the popular tourist town of Kenmare, in Co. Kerry, the renowned Lansdowne Hotel is definitely worth a visit. Steeped in beauty and charm, perfectly blending old school features and hospitality with modern vibes, countless visitors return here, and it’s not hard to see why. The facilities are wonderful, the staff warm and adept, and the location is ideal for exploring the much loved town in which it resides.

Having been run for decades by Bobby & Breda Hanley, it sold in the year 2000. However, Kenmare native and son of the former owners, Patrick Hanley returned home with his wife Aileen to take the reins in 2024. The Lansdowne itself was built way back in 1790 as the town residence of William Petty Fitzmaurice, the 2nd Earl of Shelbourne, and is one of the town’s oldest landmarks. Today, it is known for it’s warm welcome and quality accommodations and dining, not to mention its proximity to great shopping, bars and restaurants, as well as activities like golfing and kayaking, nature walks and the famous McGillycuddy Reeks.

Each of the 28 guest rooms at The Lansdowne are brimming with style and comfort, with towels and linens from the Francis Brennan Collection, VOYA toiletries, Flat Screen TVs, coffee machines and tea making facilities, in-room safes and WiFi as standard. The beds are super comfy and the aesthetics are certain to please, whether you’re staying in a Twin, King or indeed Super King room.

When it comes to dining, The Lansdowne has you well covered from morning till eve. Their An Nead Café & Terrace serves terrific food throughout the day, kicking off with a tasty breakfast menu offering everything from Gaelic porridge to banana & peanut toasted brioche drizzled in maple syrup, not to mention a hearty full Irish. Their Lansdowne Omelette is fab as well. For lunch, think small plates like soups, sambos and seafood chowder, or perhaps a good old sausage roll, as well as larger plates like Glenbeigh mussels with toasted sourdough; fish n’ chips; burgers; lamb koftas; and a traditional venison stew.

Pre-dinner, you must drop in to their beloved Poet’s Bar, which offers a super range of spirits and cocktails to kick the evening off, not to mention some delectable cheese and charcuterie boards to keep your hunger at bay.

Once you’ve savoured a drink or three, head on over to their Shelburne Street Restaurant, which serves a fab array of dishes that are sure to impress. Kick off with West Cork Prawn pil pil; crispy Ring of Kerry lamb belly, or perhaps some sticky hoisin Silverhill Duck wings, then follow up with a delicious Shelburne Street burgers topped with bacon jam and smoked gubeen cheese; or perhaps their Tom Crean’s beer battered cod & chips. If you fancy pushing the boat out a little further, then try their sumptuous featherblade of Cronin’s beef with seasonal veg, homemade Yorkshire puds, mash and a merlot jus. Desserts too are a delight, whether it’s a decadent almond chocolate brownie or a heart-warming apple and cinnamon crumble with vanilla bean ice-cream.

So, whether you want to explore the popular heritage town of Kenmare, wander in the nearby natural splendour, play 18 holes with the boys, or indulge in great food and drink, The Lansdowne Kenmare is the place for you.
