About The Hotel
Beginning its life as a hardware and grocery store in the early 1800s, before being developed into a popular stage coach inn some time later, The Chester Beatty Inn just off the M11 in Ashford, Co Wicklow, didn’t become a hotel until 1876, though back then it was known as the Glen Hotel. It wasn’t until 1976 that it finally became known by the moniker for which it is famed.
In recent years it was purchased by current owners Padraig and Mari Humby who, along with their family and a dedicated hard-working staff, have made it a more popular spot than ever before drawing countless guests and diners from near and far.
The 12 Guest Rooms at The Chester Beatty offer all the mod-cons one would expect these days, from WiFi and Flat Screen TVs, to safes, enhanced toiletries and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. Whether you’re staying in one of their Deluxe Double or Deluxe Triple rooms, you can expect a good night’s sleep aboard the luxurious double sleigh beds. All guest rooms are en-suite and include a freshly cooked breakfast to order which will really set you up for the day. In fact, you’ll find it hard to beat their breakfast. Think of waking up to freshly prepared oatmeal porridge served with brown sugar, chopped walnuts and Manuka honey. Follow on maybe with a traditional Full Irish, which boasts two sausages, two bacon, two eggs any style – fried, poached or scrambled – grilled tomato, sauté mushrooms, black & white pudding, and homemade potato cake. There’s a mini Irish, as well as Grand Marnier cinnamon French toast with bacon or sausage & maple syrup, or Chester’s double stack pancakes with blueberries/Nutella or plain served with bacon or sausage, maple syrup and powdered sugar. Eggs have a whole menu page to themselves – Florentine, Benedict, Omelette du Jour – or your way with smoked salmon, bacon and sausage.
Lunch and dinner too are available from their extremely popular Restaurant & Bar, which serves up great gastro fare throughout the day in a warm inviting atmosphere. Think steak burgers, sirloins and ribeyes, along with everything else from Indian yellow curries, seafood chowder, pasta dishes and more. Desserts too are a delight with tasty treats like sticky toffee pudding and Eton mess to tempt you. There is also a very attractive outdoor area, which is simply idyllic in the summer months. The Chester Beatty Inn offers a great location in beautiful Co. Wicklow which is very convenient for visiting Dublin too.
So, if you’re after great fun, food and accommodation, you need look no further than The Chester Beatty Inn. “Our aim with our customers” Says Padraig. “Is that by the time they have finished their meal they are planning their next visit.”
