About The Restaurant

Maddens Bridge Bar & Restaurant in Bundoran, Co. Donegal, has one of the most beautiful settings in Ireland, being located right opposite the famous surf peak break, creating the most amazing views out over the wild waves of the Atlantic. People come from near and far to visit Bundoran and its enviable coastline, and the luckiest ones, including my surfing son and his hungry friends, find their way to Maddens on a regular basis.

Full of life throughout the year, Maddens is a hotspot in the town for great craic and fab trad music sessions, but it also has some really great food, and a meal here is certainly not to be missed. With the ocean a mere stones throw away, it’s no surprise that there is some fantastic seafood to be had here, with dishes like grilled Irish salmon with a chunky sweet chilli & coconut cream salsa or grilled Atlantic seabass served with a stir-fried medley of veg and crushed garlic and chive baby potatoes, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Starters at Maddens include a choice of 4,6 or 10 award winning fresh oysters from Donegal's Traigheanna Bay served with their own fresh chilli salsa vinaigrette. Fiery chicken wings feature, as well as succulent marinated pork belly ribs in barbecue sauce. Their tiger prawn tacos are crunchy delicious with guacamole, fresh chilli, lettluce, peppers and a taco sauce. Also delicious is the creamy seafood chowder, which is just the thing on a cold day, and they do a Portobello mushroom dish with wilted baby spinach, ratatouille and Irish goats cheese that’s very popular with veggies. The smoked salmon and crabmeat roll with scallions and sweet chilli dressing is also a favourite with our crew.

For the mains, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. For the carnivore, they do really great 8oz fillet steaks and 10oz prime sirloin, served with an onion & mixed pepper hash potato and fresh veg, along with their Frizzels gourmet Irish beef burger and homecut fries. Wild Irish Venison sausage is there too in a spiced tomato and red wine sauce with tagliatelle. The aforementioned seafood is bolstered with other great fishy dishes like baked Atlantic cod with a fresh chilli & citrus butter and good old fish & chips with homecut fries and tartare sauce.

For those with a sweet tooth, you won’t be disappointed by the creamy chocolate panna cotta, or their brown bread & Irish Mist liqueur ice-cream for that matter, which is simply divine.

Whatever the reason for your visit to Bundoran – whether it’s to ramble the local wilds, surf the world famous waves, or simply to pamper and preen on a much deserved escape – it wouldn’t be complete without a craft beer or a cocktail and a meal at Maddens Bridge Bar and Restaurant.
