About The Hotel
Galway has always been a very popular tourist destination and the perfect base for exploring Connemara and the Wild Atlantic Way but, over the last couple of years, it has also really stepped up its game on the food front. It is a city that is really hopping now with lots of activities and festivals. On my last expedition, I stayed at the fabulous, four star, but one of a kind, Menlo Park Hotel in Galway City. Established in 1998 by father and son, Paddy and John Francis, the hotel, which today is operated by John, was built on the grounds where their family has resided for many generations. Indeed, local history is honoured at the Menlo, with many of their conference suites being named after well-known local characters
The exterior of the hotel has quite a stately, grand appearance, which can be very welcoming, especially when that old school kind of look is coupled with the beautifully modern interiors, accented by some really cool stylized retro throwbacks, that are to be found and savoured throughout the Menlo Park Hotel and its 70 gorgeous guestrooms. The rooms themselves are en-suite, with most featuring rain showers as well as baths, flat screen satellite TVs, hypo allergenic bedding, desks, WiFi, trouser press and everything else one might expect of a top class hotel. If you really feel like pampering yourself go for one of their superior king rooms, which are individually designed, with beautiful fabrics, lavish wallpaper and carpets, and lets not forget the six foot king size bed, luxury bathrobe and slippers making for a truly self spoiling stay.
When it comes to food and drink at the Menlo, they are more than prepared to meet the expectations of the modern tourist, with some great casual food and drink being served in their Bar Beoga, where, at the weekends, some really fab live musical acts take center stage and create the perfect Galway pub atmosphere. If it’s a more upscale bite you’re after, book a table at their wonderfully atmospheric, contemporary Bia Beo restaurant, where their talented chefs are producing some of the most exquisite fine dining around, using the freshest locally sourced ingredients possible.
Beyond the magnificent décor, facilities and attention to detail at the Menlo, the staff really makes a huge difference to your stay. At the Menlo, the family-run touch has not been lost and the staff there take a massive amount of pride in knowing that their guests are not only satisfied with their stay, but delighted.
So, if you’re stressed out and thinking of taking a break, make the Menlo Park Hotel your getaway!
