For many of us in Ireland, our first experience of ‘exotic’ food as children will have been Chinese or possibly Indian or Thai. Nowadays, however, we have a wonderful world of interesting international cuisines available all over the country — though, when it comes down to it, kids still love the familiar sticky sweet and sour sauces of yore.
Chinese restaurants started opening in Dublin back in the late 1950s with the Asia Chinese on Lower Leeson Street and Cathay on Kildare Street. Luna followed on O’Connell Street and then The Universal on Wicklow Street, which fed many students of the day.
