Restaurant Review - Madame Pho's
Tuesday 12 November 2024
One couldn’t argue with the warmth of the welcome at Madame Pho, a new Vietnamese spot on Exchequer Street, as we were ushered through a full restaurant towards the basement room — though then demurred going down to the bowels of the earth to what had been the cocktail/karaoke bar of the former Ukiyo Japanese restaurant. “If you can wait five minutes,” a managerial looking man obliged, “we’ll have a table up here.”
Ensconced by the entrance, I said enthusiastically to Ian, “This will do well — bright, buzzy and colourful.” It’s a pity then that when it came to food and service, it all fell apart! A Belfast-based chain with seven restaurants in and around that area, this is Madame Pho’s first time to dip its toes south of the Border, with two more branches in the pipeline — in Dublin 8 and Drogheda.
