Our Latest Great Place To Stay & Eat - The Lansdowne Kenmare

Monday 10 February 2025

Having been run for decades by Bobby & Breda Hanley, it sold in the year 2000. However, Kenmare native and son of the former owners, Patrick Hanley returned home with his wife Aileen to take the reins in 2024. The Lansdowne itself was built way back in 1790 as the town residence of William Petty Fitzmaurice, the 2nd Earl of Shelbourne, and is one of the town’s oldest landmarks. Today, it is known for it’s warm welcome and quality accommodations and dining, not to mention its proximity to great shopping, bars and restaurants, as well as activities like golfing and kayaking, nature walks and the famous McGillycuddy Reeks.

Each of the 28 guest rooms at The Lansdowne are brimming with style and comfort, with towels and linens from the Francis Brennan Collection, VOYA toiletries, Flat Screen TVs, coffee machines and tea making facilities, in-room safes and WiFi as standard. The beds are super comfy and the aesthetics are certain to please, whether you’re staying in a Twin, King or indeed Super King room.

When it comes to dining, The Lansdowne has you well covered from morning till eve. Their An Nead Café & Terrace serves terrific food throughout the day, kicking off with a tasty breakfast menu offering everything from Gaelic porridge to banana & peanut toasted brioche drizzled in maple syrup, not to mention a hearty full Irish. Their Lansdowne Omelette is fab as well. For lunch, think small plates like soups, sambos and seafood chowder, or perhaps a good old sausage roll, as well as larger plates like Glenbeigh mussels with toasted sourdough; fish n’ chips; burgers; lamb koftas; and a traditional venison stew.
