About The Hotel

A sister hotel to the fab Nesbitt Arms in Ardara, Co. Donegal, the Abbey Hotel is one of the longest established hotels in the north west - and for good reason. Set in the historic heart of Donegal Town, the Abbey is right in the middle of the action and ideally located for all kinds of visitors, whether they’d rather explore the town and the great food and drink on offer, or head off on an adventure into the Wild Atlantic Way.

Just minutes from the hotel, guests will find a myriad of spectacular natural sights, from stunning coastal drives, to gorgeous sandy beaches, not to mention the famous rugged terrain that draws hikers, walkers, surfers and other such outdoor junkies year after year. Personally, I’m quite happy enjoying the idyllic views of Donegal Bay from the comfort of the driver’s seat, but if you’d rather take on Mother Nature more directly, then more power to you!

Whatever your preference, all can meet back at the Abbey, for some great food and drink, as well as some top notch entertainment including country & western weekends, comedy shows and live bands plus traditional Irish folk music in the Abbey Bar happening on a regular basis.
Their award-winning Market House Steak & Seafood Restaurant definitely lives up to the hype, serving mouth-watering 8oz prime fillet steak on the stone, along with other such viands and cracking seafood that’s ‘straight off the boat’, as they say. Overlooking the Diamond’s famous monument, The Market House is spacious, warm and, with a fantastic wine and gin bar thrown into the mix, is the perfect spot for a great meal and some giggles with friends or family.

Bedrooms at the Abbey Hotel are bright and modern, with a cool breezy air in keeping with its coastal locale. As expected these days, all mod cons from en suite bathrooms to flat screen TVs to tea/coffee facilities to hair dryers etc are provided and there’s a great selections of rooms available from doubles and twins to triples, king rooms and executive suites too.

Donegal is also a popular port of call for all the wannabe Rory McIlroys out there, with some great golf courses being located nearby. With that in mind, the Abbey Hotel has a dedicated golf department, with some great offers on golfing breaks, so why not let them take all the hard work out of planning your trip, so you can focus on your short game instead.

I should mention too - though it’s no surprise with its stunning location and ace facilities - that the Abbey Hotel is always in high demand for weddings and civil ceremonies. Their experienced co-ordinators are there for you throughout your journey into marriage, guiding the preparations and tailoring the event so that your special day is both spectacular and unique.

So, if you’re looking for somewhere special for a break away, or maybe more, check out the Abbey Hotel in Donegal - You’ll be glad you did.
