About The Restaurant
Part of the superb Shannon Springs Hotel in Co. Clare the award-winning Old Lodge Gastro pub is a wonderful place to eat, offering great fresh fare in a stylish olde world themed space that just oozes good vibes. With the Wild Atlantic Way right on their doorstep, the restaurant is surrounded by nature’s bounty, so it will come as no surprise that the menus here are brimming with local seafood, prime Irish meats and fresh fruit and veg.
The attractive vintage décor here creates a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout, and their roofed beer garden is a true delight with the bar flowing from indoors to out, where a faux street complete with shop fronts creates a unique and enjoyable ambience.
They have excellent lunch menus here also, but from the evening a la carte menu, starters at the Old Lodge include dishes such as pan-seared tuna with steamed pak choi, mussels, lemongrass, chilli and coconut broth; bruschetta of grilled homemade focaccia bread with chickpea hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, pepperonata, artichoke, dressed leaves and black olive oil; or a finger lickin’ portion of their Old Lodge chicken wings available hot n’ spicy or in a bbq sauce. Nachos too or a popular starter here, available too as a larger portion with beef, melted Cheddar, jalapenos, guacamole, salsa and sour cream.
For the mains, there are some fab meaty options to choose from, such as a 6oz sirloin steak sambo with a choice of sauces on ciabatta with sautéed mushrooms, onions, coleslaw and a side of fries; or perhaps the Moroccan influences of a Harissa-spiced pork shoulder with smoked aubergine puree, cumin carrots, home cut wedges and a tomato & red pepper sauce. Their homemade beef burgers are a popular selection, with smoked bacon, Monterey Jack, pickled red onion rings, butterhead lettuce, relish and gherkin mayo; as is a toothsome 8oz rib-eye with chargrilled Portobello mushroom, onion rings and fries.
There’s an Irish Tapas option of wings, mini sausages, chicken goujons and Cajun fries; along with a corresponding American Tapas dish featuring the likes of cornbread, chilli beans and bbq beef brisket.
The seafood here is ace as well, with wonderful dishes such as tempura battered haddock with mushy peas, tartare sauce and chips; pan-fried stonebass served with marinated veg, baked greenshell mussels, citrus mash and a caper & sundried tomato salsa.
For dessert, you can expect some decadent delights such as a Eton Mess with mixed berries, meringue chunks, cream and a berry coulis; a warm Bramley apple crumble with walnuts, cinnamon Anglaise and Chantilly cream; not to mention a gorgeous Jaffa cake orange chocolate mousse dome with orange jelly, a sponge base and candied orange peel.
Vegans too are sure to be pleased with a dedicated menu offering tempting pant-based dishes like vegetable Thai red curry with fragrant Asian rice; vegan burgers on beetroot buns; not to mention their vegan Wellington of sweet potato, celeriac and beetroot.
With great food a great gastro atmosphere, it’s easy to see why the Old Lodge is so popular. They’re open throughout the day and do delicious breakfasts as well, not to mention their cracking Sunday Lunch menu. So, if you’re heading west, don’t you dare miss out on a meal at the Old Lodge Gastro Pub at Shannon Springs Hotel.
