About The Restaurant
Located on the Muckross Road in Dromhale, Killarney, Tango Street Food is Ireland’s first and only Argentinian Food Market, where they proudly boast that their “authentic, nutritious and tasty gourmet food will transport you to Buenos Aires without a 14 hours flight!” Food is a big deal in Argentina and the cuisine there is a wonderful melding of the different cultures who have resided there, with millions of immigrants coming from Poland, Italy, Spain, Germany and even Ireland.
Pamela and Facundo are part of the new face and greatly revived food scene in Killarney, the atmosphere and enthusiasm here is infectious with great pastries and pizzas during the day. Indeed, the Pizzeria at Tango is indeed a star attraction with its fabulous beautiful Neapolitan oven custom built brick by brick in Italy, weighing a whopping one and a half tons and fuelled soley by timber. No gas, no electricity. The pizzas, as you might suspect, are superb, with an excellent selection available prepared with their authentic Italian artisan fermented dough. Think meatballs and jalapenos; N’duja and hot honey; or their gorgeous ‘out of the blue’ Roquefort pizza. All the favorites are their two like a funky funghi or a classic pepperoni pie.
Empanadas too are a popular dish at Tango, stuffed to the brim with delicious spices and veg, and your choice of beef, chicken or sweet corn. One of the most popular dishes across Latin America, with each country adding their own twists, these little half-moon pockets of dough with their scrumptious fillings are truly a delight.
From 4pm-10pm Thursday – Sunday, their Parilla grill kicking into action, offering fab Parilla dishes from their custom BBQ, using traditional guacho cooking techniques and Argentinian cuts curated by their Irish butcher. Expect mouth-watering dry-aged burgers with all the fixings, Argentinian style hot dogs called Choripan with grilled chorizo sausages being served in ciabatta bread with delicious chimichurri, as well as special menu of timber cooked fine cuts that includes Tira de Asado (short ribs), Entrana (skirt steak) and Morcilla (blood sausage). There are specials served also throughout the year, such as rib eye, t-bone, matambre and more, however these are subject to availability. There is a wide selection of Argentinian wines available too at Tango, selected to offer the perfect pairings with their food.
On the sweeter side of things, there’s also a superb bakery here serving some of the most popular Argentinian sweet treats including Alfajores which are traditional shortbread-like cookies that are melt-in-the-mouth scrumptious. Using only the finest ingredients, their treats are produced in small hand-crafted batches using classic artisan techniques.
On our vist, we had two great coffees and shared an excellent wood fired Margarita pizza made with 48 hour fermented dough, tomato sauce, fior di latte, fresh basil leaves and EVOO.
They also cater for private events for up to 80 people on site, or at your chosen location via their excellent food truck.
