About The Restaurant
The Commodore Hotel in Cobh, Co. Cork is the perfect base for visiting this popular historical seaside town, well known as the last port of call for the Titanic before it disappeared beneath the Atlantic forever. People flock from far and wide to experience this bustling little town with its rich history and stunning views over Cork Harbour. In fact, the big cruise liners regularly come to port to let passengers explore the famous Irish town.
There are some great restaurants and bars in the area, including the Commodore’s own Club Café & Grill offering a delightful selection of small plates and starters as well as more substantial fare in a bright airy modern atmosphere.
Kick things off with some grilled Cajun chicken and rustic potato salad or some hot garlic prawns. Their East Cork seafood chowder is gorgeous, and given the locale, couldn’t be fresher, and their Commodore spicy chicken wings are finger lickin’ good.
Mains at The Club Café & Grill include the likes of golden fried chicken goujons, a Thai vegetable curry with jasamine rice as well as deep-fried haddock in beer batter with tartare sauce and a side of French fries. Their succulent prawn scampi dish is excellent also.
Dedicated carnivores will be please with what’s being offered ‘from the grill’, with a juicy 6oz flash fried fillet steak being touted, not to mention a 10oz prime sirloin, along with juicy homemade beef burgers and steak sambos too.
Their Ballycotton fish pie is popular, topped with creamy mash and served with garden peas or fries, as is a classic shepards pie.
For dessert, there’s always a great selection of cake and pud with delicious decadent chocolatey dishes that are sure to spoil your diet.
They serve breakfast at The Club Café and Grill from 8am-11am with the Full Irish being served both in its classic form and also as a modern veggie version with cauliflower hash, grilled tomato, mushroom, spinach and a choice of eggs. There’s granola, scones, porridge and more, if you want to keep it light, plus some gorgeous freshly mad epancakes served with a berry compote or maple syrup.
The Commodore’s O’Shea’s Bar also serves food throughout the day, if you prefer a more casual bite over a pint or two. With great toasted paninis and crispy chicken wraps, not to mention plenty of substantial mains to choose from, O’Shea’s is great for the three B’s – Beer, bites and banter.
So, if you’re planning on visiting Cobh anytime soon, be sure to stop at the Commodore Hotel.
In fact, why not stay the night?
