About The Restaurant
A meal at Lil’s restaurant, at the four-star Avalon House Hotel, is not to be missed. As with the rest of the hotel, Lil’s is a modern classic, with the original features of the house being boosted by the skilful eye of a talented interior decorator. Think tasteful muted Farrrow & Ball colours with splashes of colour enriching the atmosphere. Located on the first floor of the hotel, the restaurant is flooded with natural light and has lovely views of Castlecomer.
There’s a great drinks menu here, with lots of wine, whiskeys, gins and cocktails, and a pre/post repast refreshment at their Lark’s Bar is certainly a must as well.
The Head Chef at Lil’s is Cathal O’Dowd, who has received rave reviews for his contemporary, elegant fare, beautifully presented, and having Irish seasonal produce at the heart of every dish. He's a man on a mission to make Castlecomer a foodie destination.
Starters at Lil’s might include the likes of chicken and black pudding terrine with vanilla mayonnaise and toast; pork belly with Irish chorizo, pea shoots and a pea puree; or pan-fried mackerel, with crab, horseradish, green apple and beetroot. They also do a great soup of the day served with homemade breads.
For the mains, there are always lots of great dishes to tempt, such as roast duck breast with Cashel blue cheese, garlic scape, spiced carrot and roast plum; or an Irish rack of lamb with courgette, sheep’s milk yoghurt, garden pea and mint pesto. They had a great Irish Hereford Featherblade of beef with shallots, shitake mushrooms, roast carrot and a rich Guiness jus, when I was there last, and their market fish of the evening, caught at Kilmore Quay in Co. Wexford is always popular with denizens of Lil’s.
For dessert, there’s something sweet and irresistible for every palate, with treats like vanilla creme brulee with langue de chat biscuit and vanilla ice cream; chocolate and caramel delice, with blood orange sorbet and chocolate popping candy; or a classic tarte tatin with mouth watering salted caramel ice-cream, all certain to sink that diet you’ve been working so hard on.
From service to style to substance, Lil’s restaurant at the Avalon House Hotel is a great place to eat, so why wait any longer? Book a table today!
