About The Restaurant

If you’re down Kerry way, perhaps touring the Ring or enjoying the splendour of Killarney National Park, then be sure to make a visit to the international Hotel in Killarney town centre, where they have a great assortment of wining and dining options to choose from.

The hotel itself is plush and stylish ensuring comfort and atmosphere from the moment you arrive. If you’re an early bird or fancy an afternoon snack, then The Brasserie is the place for you. Sit back and relax with tea, coffee and some fresh pastries and watch the world going past as you take a much-needed break. It’s also available as a party/function room with its own private bar.

If you’re after a high society candlelit affair with all the bells and whistles, then book a table at their fab Brewery Restaurant, a beautiful room adorned with ornate plasterwork, twinkling chandeliers and wood panels, serving great contemporary style food with lots of little culinary tweaks.

However, on my visit, I decided on a meal at their delightful Hannigan’s Bar and Restaurant. Open throughout the day, the atmosphere here is chilled and friendly while still feeling totally high end. After a relaxing drink at the bar, which is very welcoming, and also does really good live music in the evenings, we were shown to our table.

Starters, when we were there, included Loughnane’s black pudding with carmelised pear & feta cheese, bacon and a honey & mustard dressing; duck spring roll with an Asian salad and ginger & chilli dressing; as well as an Atlantic seafood chowder. I plumped for their golden fried jumbo prawns, cooked to perfection in panko crumb and served with pineapple, chilli salsa and wasabi mayo. Delish. Brendan opted for the deep-fried Boilie goats cheese which arrived with a sundried tomato & almond salsa, red onion marmalade and some mixed leaves, which he enjoyed as well.

For the mains, there was plenty to choose from with supreme of chicken, seared salmon fillet and a slow cooked lamb rump all making an appearance. Pan-seared scallops were there along with cod scampi with tartare sauce and mushy peas, but, in the end, I decided to have the Silverhill honey roast crispy duckling, beautifully prepared and presented with sweet potato, apricot puree and an orange sauce. Himself went for a sumptuous 10oz dry aged Irish sirloin of beef, which he loved with its roasted mushrooms, onion rings and creamy pepper sauce.

Well fed, but game for more, we had a peek at the dessert menu which offered tempting treats like traditional apple pie with vanilla ice-cream; a warm sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce; as well as a selection of ice-creams and sorbets. Brendan happily indulged in a classic raspberry Knickerbocker glory, while I savoured a decadent piece of rich chocolate fudge cake with chocolate sauce and vanilla bean ice-cream.

So, if you’re down south, and looking for some great fun, food and drink, then make sure the International Hotel Killarney is at the top of your list.
