About The Restaurant

Kenmare has a really special place in tourism in Ireland, it is pretty, friendly, offers a myriad of things to do and see not only in the town but as a base for working out around Kerry. We all go there for great weekends and holidays. It offers also a wide variety of places to eat from top of the range very expensive to very casual eateries.

At the end of the day, we all want to be able to sit down and have really nice food, a nice bottle of vino, preferably at really nice prices. This is where No 35 comes in. Dermot and Una Brennan who have the superb 4 Star Brook Lane Hotel know what people want nowadays. They do delicious affordable food set in casual stylish surroundings not only in their Casey’s Bistro at the Brook Lane but also at their up-town Bistro No. 35.

The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed with its open stone walls and pine ceilings and tables and the food is terrific. Una is very big into sourcing the best of local ingredients from Kerry – I have had their terrific Ring of Kerry Lamb in Irish stews and casseroles, racks and otherwise, and it has a flavour like none other. Using the best of local and Irish produce they serve their food in a very well judged way with eclectic modern influences – but you will never forget you are in Kerry. See picture of one of their local suppliers....

Starters include a lovely warm comforting smoked haddock and spring onion fish cake which comes with pickled cucumber and horseradish mayonnaise which gives the fish cake that edginess. St. Tola’s Goats Cheese comes with a salad of roast Mediterranean vegetables, organic leaves and pesto dressing, whilst marinated rack of pork ribs is in a rich Hoi Sin and BBQ sauce. Popular stalwarts such as smoked salmon are there, but this is a really good Kenmare smoked salmon served with a caper and lemon dressing. Another popular dish is chicken wings which is served here with a garlic mayo – oh and they do a great slow cooked pork belly, yummy yummy, spring roll served with a sweet chilli basil dip. Of course they do soup, but you also can have a platter for two or more sharing of a collection of the above starters which adds great variety.

They are really good with fish at No 35 being posh fish ‘n chips of wild cod in beer batter with fries and tartare sauce, or panfried fillet of salmon with a horseradish and rosemary crumb, or indeed the fish of the day. As I say, I love their slow cooked Kerry lamb stew, and they will also have a meat dish of the evening. They do lovely pastas too – seafood pasta with lemon and white wine cream sauce, or smoked bacon and chicken pasta in a basil cream sauce, or a simple fresh past with house tomato and basil sauce. Fresh homemade pizzas include chicken curry pizza with bacon lardoons and organic rocket; Cashel Blue pizza with roast red onions and thyme; and a really different and luscious pizza with strips of slow cooked pork belly, Sneem black pudding and caramelised onion.!

At lunchtime you can have lovely tasty dishes including a great seafood chowder and an open smoked salmon sandwich on lovely brown bread. They also do crisp fillet of lemon sole with warm baby potato salad and a lemon vinaigrette, as well as a warm black pudding salad with caramelised apples and fresh Parmesan. You can also have a great Club Sandwich or bruschetta topped with tomato, roast peppers, smoked Gubbeen cheese, and basil pesto.

Leave room for puds – Banoffi – Brownie – Sticky Toffee Pudding – Jelly – Sorbet – Oh yes you will.

At No. 35 - whatever you choose - you will get quality as well as value – ever more important nowadays - and you will come away feeling satisfied and happy.
