About The Hotel
It is easy to see why The Glasshouse caused such a stir when it opened at Swan Point in Sligo for the fact of the matter is that it is absolutely stunning. It shines like a glittering star beckoning people inwards to its magnetic colourful interior, full of life and fun, and it totally changed the level of accommodation and dining available in Sligo. Stunningly located on the banks of the Garavogue river, The Glasshouse is within metres of Sligo’s main O’Connell Street – it has underground parking – so you have nothing to worry about, just walk out and shop til you drop.
The Glasshouse pushed out the boundaries both in design and décor, every turn you take leads you to a new brilliant area and, to top it all, prices for such high quality are extremely reasonable. All of the bedrooms spread over five floors are beacons of light and colour in sunshine and citrus colours with floor to ceiling windows and gossamer light curtains. They are what I call “happy rooms”. There are four levels from standard through superior, deluxe and junior suites. All rooms are soundproofed, have Broadband access points, climate control and 26” LCD TVs with a full entertainment menu, a selection of movies from the movie library and remote onscreen internet access. There are also rooms with reduced mobility facilites.
We’d had a long drive up from Dublin and once we settled in we went down to the View Bar, which is literally that – wonderful views over the weir on the river and out over the ever more vibrant Sligo, we progressed into the award winning Kitchen Restaurant, which has an innovative menu. We liked their combinations and pairings of food – Donegal crab meat with pickled pineapple, pea puree, rocket and a spiced mango dressing, pan fried seabass fillets with pickled carrot, fennel shavings, spiced butternut squash and a lentil dressing.
Breakfast too is served in The Kitchen and you can choose from healthy options or their fantastic full Irish. You can read more about the Kitchen Restaurant on the Great Places to Eat side of my website
