Our Latest Great Place To Eat - Pier 26 Restaurant
Friday 31 October 2014
The seafood caught by the trawlers here is renowned as being some of the finest in the country. Where better to enjoy it then than just straight off the boats in Pier 26? Not only is it virtually on the pier, but you can have wonderful views of those boats and the happenings in the harbour as you’re enjoying the local fruits de mer.
Colin and Holly Hennessy have absolutely captured the ethos of what is required in a good seafood restaurant by the sea. The food is cracking the prices are right, its relaxed and enjoyable with good food and fun. It’s not all about seafood, because this is an area that is abundant with great food from the local farms – you couldn’t get much closer to local and seasonal than Ballycotton.
The room itself is bright and airy with hardwood floors matching the look of the tables and chairs.
On my most recent visit, starters included their Pier 26 seafood chowder; a free-range chicken and rare breed pork terrine with apple and raisin chutney, pickles and toast; plus wonderful seafood specials on the blackboard including Ballycotton crab beignets; smoked West Cork scallops with spinach puree and a beurre blanc. They do a great monkfish scampi with chilli and lime aioli as well as Oysterhaven oysters.
