Our Latest Great Place To Eat - Clodagh's Kitchen Blackrock
Friday 08 August 2014
She descended like a beam of light into the South Dublin suburb of Blackrock with her 120 seater Clodagh’s Kitchen adding a whole new bright innovative dining venue. Her arrival to the area was seen as a new beginning for Blackrock, which is very short of good eateries.
Located over two units on two levels in Blackrock Shopping Centre, Clodagh’s bright new Kitchen fronts out onto the carpark, with dual access from both inside and outside the center. The décor is superb; light brick walls of the variety which Sir said is known as ‘Dolphin’s Barn’ brick. I’m not sure about that but they are offset to stunning effect with muted faux French style grey and white paintwork, furniture and napery, accented with fresh turquoise menus, napkins and tweaks. Sir was also very struck by how cleverly they had broken up the two main rooms, from a little curtained romantic nook to booths, long banquettes and individual tables. They also have a really chic little wine bar where you can have antipasti plates, the aforementioned pate, Scotch egg or potted crab.
When I last dropped in for lunch, starters included their seasonal soup of the day with homemade bread and Glenilen Farmhouse butter; an antipasti platter for two featuring Gubeen salami, Parma ham, chicken liver pate and sourdough toasts; as well as their veggie friendly option of avocado, feta and chilli toasts which are smashed avocado, feta, chilli, tomato and lime on sourdough toast. I went for their Irish Summer Caprese Salad with Toonsbridge buffalo mozzarella from Cork with fresh basil, Irish vine tomatoes and a balsamic dressing. Fresh and flavoursome. My dining companion opted for the Clodagh’s famous chicken liver pate, which came to our table with a delicious spicy apple chutney and toasted brioche.
