Friday 07 June 2013
Prominantly located on the main street, you will find The Forge, a great contemporary style pub and eatery, which specialises in fresh and locally produced food of the highest quality whilst also providing a warm and welcoming environment. The Forge also doubles as a great venue for live entertainment attracting acts like Brendan Grace, Marcus Hernon, Eleanor Shanley to name but a few. Inside, The Forge is spacious and airy and while it’s look is definitely contemporary, there is a an inviting sense of the traditional about it.
On our recent visit, starters included an Atlantic seafood chowder prepared with only fresh locally sourced fish and served with rustic brown bread; Irish duck or vegetarian spring rolls came with honey and ginger dipping sauce and salad garnish, whilst shallow fried calamari rings were served with salad leaves and sweet chilli mayo. I went for Connemara Smokehouse organic smoked salmon which came with salad leaves, baby capers, and homemade brown bread. It was absolutely superb. Himself opted for an old and alltime favourite of deepfried Brie served with a delicious pear chutney, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
On offer for the mains were golden fried homemade goujons of Glin Valley Irish chicken served on a bed of organic leaves with garlic and chive mayonnaise; a classic chicken Caesar salad; their beer battered fish of the day and a classic Irish chicken sizzler with Thai red curry sauce, served sizzling, accompanied with rice and fries. They also offer a vegetarian dish of the day.
