Our Latest Great Place To Eat - Rowan Tree Restaurant @ Ashdown Park Hotel
Thursday 07 February 2013
Since opening a dozen years ago, The Ashdown Park Hotel has become a very popular venue for dining. There are two principle dining options; The Ivy Bar and the more formal Rowan Tree Restaurant.
If it’s a quick bite you’re after or a full meal, The Ivy Bar will amply cater to your needs, providing light snacks and bar food throughout the day as well as a killer carvery lunch. Starters in the Ivy bar include a tasty traditional tiger prawn cocktail served with a homemade Marie Rose sauce and lemon wedge, whilst smoked chicken Caesar salad is served with Cos lettuce, Parmesan cheese and croutons.
You might like to try the delicious Ashdown Special which consists of stir fried beef tossed with diced mango, cucumber, bean sprouts, coriander and an Oriental sauce. Options for the mains, on my visit, included sizzling chicken fajitas served with stir fry vegetables, salsa, cheddar cheese, sour cream and wraps, steamed fillet of salmon with black olive, sun dried tomatos, mixed leaf salad and salsa verde, but hardest of all to resist may have been the traditional beer battered fish and chips served with a pea puree, tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon. The provenance of their food is excellent, including their fabulous beef which comes direct from their own Redmond Farm – you couldn’t get more local than that.
