Our Latest Great Place to Stay & Eat - Ritz-Carlton, Powerscourt
Wednesday 02 January 2013
Powerscourt Estate at Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, has always held a special place in the hearts of Dubliners. A truly splendid estate with a magnificent Palladian Mansion with formal gardens and terraces reminiscent of Versailles, it was here in 1965 that Princess Grace of Monaco danced away the evening with her Prince at Les Bal des Petits Lis Blancs and the great and the good of Irish Society of the time. In the 1970’s the magnificent Powerscourt House was burned down and remained empty for many years. Happily it was restored and re-opened in 1996 and is now home to a number of excellent stores and a terrace café.
The Powerscourt Estate is undoubtedly one of the country’s best assets and a destination for many many visitors but, even better nowadays, people have the wonderful opportunity of being able to stay on the estate itself at the fabulous fabulous Ritz- Carlton Powerscourt Hotel which is nestled away discreetly in its own cocoon of natural beauty.
The Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt hotel was magnificently designed in the style of a crescent shaped Palladian palace, offering wonderful views of the Sugar Loaf mountain without itself in any way impeding on the natural beauty of the Powerscourt Estate or the beauties of the garden of Ireland which is Wicklow. The whole feel of the hotel on entering is of dignified opulent yet understated luxury. With 200 spacious guest rooms, including 93 suites, there are panoramic views and terraces available in many rooms.
