When I was a kid Swords was a small town where we often go on the ‘Sunday Drive’ and you thought of it as being out in the country. The father would drive around taking in Ballyboughal, the Naul, all of those great places, and of course blackberry picking was a major part of the trip. Now of course everyone talks about foraging as if they had discovered gold!! There weren’t any restaurants out there back in those days but now there are quite a few including the very popular Masterson’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar.
One thing that is very important in a restaurant is reliability. Masterson’s has a great reputation for reliability, for always producing a great dry aged steak, you won’t be disappointed. But, first to starters! There is something for everyone here from Thai Beef Salad or Tandoori chicken goujons to goat’s cheese crostini with olive tapenade drizzled with fresh pesto. Their sizzling prawns are sautéed in garlic and chilli oil, finished with white wine and butter, and served on a sizzling skillet. Rack of ribs is cooked in a tangy BBQ marinade whilst chilli beef nachos are topped with cheese and sour cream. Another delicious starter is panfried lamb’s liver served on toasted brioche with red onion marmalade and a gratin mustard beurre blanc.
They do a great 12 oz center cut of extra marbled Hereford rib eye with sauté onions and mushrooms served with the chef’s own Jack Daniels and wild.....
