The Step Inn in Stepaside has long been a destination for good food and drink. Built in the style of an old Coaching Inn, The Step Inn in the old days was outside the 3 mile city limits, and consequently known as a ‘bona fide’ pub, which meant it was not subject to the strict licensing laws of the time when there was the ‘Holy Hour’ between 2.30 and 3.30 and pubs closed at 10 o’clock. After that those wanting a late night drink had to head for a ‘bona fide’ and from what I hear there was a lot of good fun.
The Step Inn today is still a great destination for good contemporary casual food in a friendly buzzy atmosphere – the way we all like to eat nowadays. Lunch and dinner is served in the lounge every day. Dinner is also served in their next door restaurant The Stone Grill from 5 pm Wednesday through Saturday and from 3 pm on Sunday. Starters include all the popular stalwarts which we all love – but with a twist. Calamari is coated in potato flour and quickly fried til crispy before being served with a piquant jalapeno mayo. Salmon croquettes are a combo of fresh and smoked salmon with spring onion, bound with roasted sweet potato and served with a honey Dijon sauce, whilst spicy chicken wings.....
