Restaurant Review - Rusheenduff @ Renvyle House Hotel
Tuesday 22 October 2024
The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness heralded a trip to the waters and the wilds of Connemara. My destination was the four-star resort, Renvyle House Hotel, a visit fired up by the publication of A Sea-Grey House – a beautiful book recounting the colourful history of Renvyle House by historian Jerry Lidwell, featuring many of the paintings there by renowned artists such as Augustus John, William Conor and Patrick Hennessy who stayed over the years.
Indeed, the house speaks to you through its wide art collection, as well as photographs of legendary movie stars, including Fred Astaire and Richard Harris, not to mention a world of literary figures. Lidwell’s connection to Renvyle stems from the late 1970s when he went to Connemara for a fortnight’s holiday. He ended up working there for almost a decade under the legendary longtime chef Tim O’Sullivan who has recently retired — but is still around keeping a watchful eye on his kitchen!
