As I write, on what is a glorious summer’s day, the gleaming €300m superyacht Kaos, owned by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie, has been moored in the shadow of the splendid statue of Roger Casement at Dún Laoghaire Baths. Meanwhile, Tom Hanks was at the Dalkey Book Festival talking about his debut novel, The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece. Celebrity sightings are common in Dalkey, be it Pierce Brosnan or Timothy Dalton propped up on a pub stool, Matt Damon going swimming, carrying a SuperValu bag containing his togs, or Bono enjoying a keema naan in a local restaurant.
