Our Latest Great Place To Eat - Mary Barry's Seafood Bar & Restaurant
Thursday 18 August 2022
Mary Barry’s was hopping, when we went in, with a mixture of locals enjoying their usual favourites, plus ladies in best dresses and men looking uncomfortable in the once-a-year suit for whatever event was occuring.
We got a comfortable table in front of the bar and surveyed both a page of ‘Nicky’s Specials” and another full range of starters, which can also be had as mains, plus seafood, chicken, meat, vegan, vegetarian, stir fry’s & curry dishes. “Are these all available at lunchtime?” I asked, mesmerised, only to be assured that indeed they were. “Nicky likes to give a good selection.”
Local seafood is of course the specialty here and that was what we were intent on during our visit to the Sunny South East. Dishes included Tuskar crab cocktail or ‘Retro’ prawn cocktail. There were chorizo panfried prawns; panfried Kilmore Quay scallops with black pudding & apple sauce; Kilmore Quay fresh scampi with chips; goujons of monkfish or if you want an Asian or Italian influence there was Thai yellow prawn & monkfish curry, and crab and prawn linguini, as well as seafood platters or half-lobster half crab salad.
