Taking the big gong this year for glamour; local food; luxury; the sport of kings, horse racing; and future kings has to be Cashel Palace Hotel. This spectacular early 18th-century bishop’s manor, now a five-star hotel, will bring a huge amount of international tourism, as well as business and equestrian visitors, to the whole region.
It opened on the cusp of another great coup for the county — the inclusion of the Rock of Cashel on the itinerary of the state visit of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. The duo follow in the steps of the prince’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who visited in 2011 — combining her love of horses with a buggy tour of John Magnier’s Coolmore Stud.
