Our Latest Great Place To Stay & Eat - The Shelbourne
Thursday 09 January 2020
Everybody who’s anybody has walked through the Shelbourne doors from Princess Grace, to whom their most famous suite is dedicated, to Pierce Brosnan to Michelle Obama. The Irish Constitution was drafted here under our hero Michael Collins – there is just so much history and style within its four walls. The Shelbourne is all about the fabric of Irish life.
Built in 1824, The Shelbourne, is located right on St. Stephen’s Green, in the heart of all the upmarket City activity, the best shops, wine bars, restaurants, that is if you can bear to drag yourself out of the Shelbourne at all in case you miss anything! Millions of euros have been spent on its restoration bringing it up to date yet retaining all the graciousness and elegance of past times – luxurious fabrics – marble bathrooms – it’s a joy.
Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, and been wowed by your bedroom, head straight down to the No. 27 Bar and Lounge for a drink and really take in the atmosphere and grandeur that surrounds you.
Back in the 70’s one of the most popular places to eat in Dublin was The Saddle Room at the Shelbourne, and I am delighted to say that the today’s Saddle Room and Oyster Bar is even better. Think Hereford Beef Chateaubriand for two; pan-seared Dover sole ‘Meuniere’; Perle Imperial caviar to share; as well as a Beef Wellington of aged 500g Black Angus (24 hours notice required). Do make your dinner reservation when booking because this is a busy place.
