All of their dishes are freshly prepared each day, with no additives or colourings and if you suffer from allergies or intolerances, they are more than happy to accommodate. The notion of establishing a café with a major focus on healthy living came about when one of the founders fell ill and had to make dietary changes, which made a huge difference to their health. So, at Bare Food they strive to offer the kind of food that your body will thank you for, whilst also being thoroughly delicious.
On a lunchtime visit, the dishes on offer included a Thai style red curry with rice and a choice of tofu, chicken or prawn; lightly smoked Clogherhead cod served with coconut dahl and Indian pesto; as well as a marinated chicken kebab with a tahini dipping sauce, side salad and some of their ‘Bare Slaw’. Their steak salad of 100% Irish beef sounded delicious with roasted beet, sun blushed tomatoes and candied salted walnuts; as did their frittata of the day, but when push came to shove, I went for their Bare Super Salad of baby spinach, avocado, orange, fresh red chilli, quinoa, toasted nuts and seeds, grated ginger and my choice of prawns, all dressed in a sesame and lemon oil.
Brendan didn’t have quite his usual appetite, so he turned his attention towards their ‘Bare Sandwiches’, which included a baked ham sandwich with Bellingham blue cheese, tomato relish and fresh red onion; a veggie sandwich with beetroot hummus, garlicky kale, roast red pepper, grated carrot and sesame seeds; as well as a tasty sounding honey chicken sandwich. He decided to try their toasted steak sandwich of chargrilled 100% Irish beef, with rocket, onion relish and sliced tomato and was delighted with the flavoursome beef treat that was brought forth.
