Our Latest Great Place To Stay & Eat - Menlo Park Hotel
Monday 11 January 2016
On my last expedition, I stayed at the fabulous, four star, but one of a kind, Menlo Park Hotel in Galway City. Established in 1998 by father and son, Paddy and John Francis, the hotel, which today is operated by John, was built on the grounds where their family has resided for many generations. Indeed, local history is honoured at the Menlo, with many of their conference suites being named after well-known local characters.
The rooms themselves are en-suite, with most featuring rain showers as well as baths, flat screen satellite TVs, hypo allergenic bedding, desks, WiFi, trouser press and everything else one might expect of a top class hotel. If you really feel like pampering yourself go for one of their superior king rooms, which are individually designed, with beautiful fabrics, lavish wallpaper and carpets, and lets not forget the six foot king size bed, luxury bathrobe and slippers making for a truly self spoiling stay.
When it comes to food and drink at the Menlo, they are more than prepared to meet the expectations of the modern tourist, with some great casual food and drink being served in their Bar Beoga, where, at the weekends, some really fab live musical acts take center stage and create the perfect Galway pub atmosphere. If it’s a more upscale bite you’re after, book a table at their wonderfully atmospheric, contemporary Bia Beo restaurant, where their talented chefs are producing some of the most exquisite fine dining around, using the freshest locally sourced ingredients possible.
